Big players are often feared but Amanda Blanc puts forward the notion that Towergate is simply misunderstood. She speaks to Martin Friel about consolidation in the sector, and how it looks set to continue shaping the broking world

Amanda Blanc belongs to a breed within the insurance sector that has been swelling its ranks of late - the gamekeeper turned poacher. The phenomenon of ex-insurance company heads joining brokerages has picked up a head of steam lately, with the high-profile defections of Norwich Union's Patrick Snowball and Royal and SunAlliance's Brendan McManus to Towergate and Willis, respectively.

However, Ms Blanc was ahead of the pack, having made the move from Groupama to assume the role of chief executive

Broking profits fall at Saga

Underlying profit before tax in Saga’s insurance broking arm fell to £39.8m for the year ended 31 January 2024, compared with £71.5m in the previous period.
