Liverpool Victoria will be recruiting 200 employees for its new Croydon base over the next year, as part of its general insurance drive headed by John O'Roarke.

The former Churchill boss, and now managing director of Liverpool Victoria, said that of the initial 200 positions, with an extra 300 expected to be created by 2010, the biggest job types would be claims handlers and call centre staff.

O'Roarke reiterated his desire to take Liverpool Victoria into the top five insurers, including in private motor, and added that the Croydon operation should be up and running by the start of January.

On the branding, O'Roarke said ABC, his initial underwriting start-up which was bought by Liverpool Victoria in September, would be used for brokers' commercial insurance, while a new image would be created for the direct personal lines operation.

He added: "We are a fast growing and dynamic operation, with a committed ambition to become one of the top five players in the industry, and are looking for energetic people with a desire to join us on this high speed journey and take advantage of the exceptional opportunities offered along the way."

Other positions to be recruited include anti-fraud staff and administrative staff.
