When will politicians from all parties stop using our NHS as an ideological issue, admit that it is in terminal decline and that they must get their heads out of the sand to deliver fundamental change sooner rather than later.
It is more than 50 years since the inception of the NHS and the reality is that people have never had a meaningful right to free and equal treatment on demand. What they have had, in the main, is an unlimited right of access to a waiting list.
The best healthcare systems in the world are insurance based. It is still possible to protect those individuals on lower incomes by providing a state-funded safety net. Politicians really do need to accept that the medical insurance industry does have a vital role to play in the future of healthcare UK.
