RSA first half premiums stable

RSA announces premiums similar to first half of 2008

RSA's UK net written premiums were £1.339bn in the first half six months of the year compared to £1.377bn in the first half of 2008. The insurer's combined operating ratio was 97.4% in the UK, a decline from 96.2% at the same time last year. 

The insurer, which has so far shed 450 staff this year out of a total of 1200 in the UK said its specialty lines grew strongly with risk solutions up 25% and marine 12%. It also said it had increased rates across the board. The underwriting result in the UK
