AXA is aiming to double in size and is gunning for Norwich Union's crown as the UK's number one insurer, with a host of plans to be implemented by 2012.

Closing five regional offices was among the first steps, which Axa claimed will improve its service to brokers. The move is said to reflect the contraction of the UK broker market because, as consolidators snap up brokers, the business is then serviced from another locality.

Distribution director Mark Cliff told Professional Broking 50 agencies
