A report by AM Best on the improving health of reinsurers' balance sheets may indicate that, while the market is softening, a free fall is unlikely soon.
Despite this partial recovery, reinsurers are unlikely to use capital to subsidise rates - causing further softening - because, as the report indicates, the first obligations for reinsurers will be to remunerate shareholders.
