Almost 40 insurers may be forced to reconsider being domiciled in Gibraltar, following plans by the European Union Commission for the jurisdiction to be treated as a region of the UK, with the same tax regime.
The Government of Gibraltar, known for being a low tax haven, has vowed to fight the decision and pledged to continue to grow its financial services market despite this.
The UK government is also challenging the decision, which could have implications for Scotland and Northern Ireland.
