The Financial Services Authori-ty received more than 2000 applications from general insurance brokers in May as brokers rushed to meet the discounted application deadline.

By 31 May the FSA had received 5810 registrations and 4160 applications from primary intermediaries. Secondary intermediaries were also spurred into action with a total of 5292 registrations and 2464 applications.

Around 700 minded-to-authorise letters have been sent to general insurance brokers and 238 variation-of-permission
