The Financial Services Authority is lobbying for the power toinvestigate suspected breaches of accounting standards, said Iain
Roxborough, partner of Clifford Chance.
"At the moment, this power lies with the Financial Reporting Review panel,
which reports to the Department of Trade and Industry," Mr Roxborough
pointed out.
"The FSA is in there and lobbying, however, and could soon be in the heart
of every listed company and regulating it," he added.
