Norwich Union's intermediary business director Ken Wallace has denied reports that he is giving brokers a 31 December 2003 deadline by which to decide whether they will comply with the Financial Services Authority or get out of insurance.

Wallace said: "Of course Norwich Union will not demand that brokers make their decision by a set date. However, brokers will need to decide whether they will go for FSA regulation at the end of the year because customers who buy annual policies on or after 14
