The European Commission has launched proceedings against the 10 EU Member States that have so far failed to implement the Insurance Mediation Directive, despite the 15 January deadline.

The move, welcomed by the British Insurance Brokers' Association, involved the commission sending 'reasoned opinions' to the countries that have yet to adopt the directives almost 10 months after the deadline.

Countries that have failed to adopt the IMD are: Belgium, France, Spain, Greece, Italy, Luxembourg, Malta
