In December 2005, Standard & Poor's (S&P) raised its insurer financial strength rating on UK based non-life insurer Ecclesiastical Insurance Office (Ecclesiastical) to 'A-' from 'BBB+'. The outlook is stable.
The upgrade reflects Ecclesiastical's improved business fundamentals, comprising its strong capitalisation, competitive position and operating performance. These positive factors are partly offset by Ecclesiastical's investment strategy, which has led to relatively high (although declining)
