Rural unveils schemes push and personal touch as GWP jumps

Rural Insurance has unveiled a "counter-intuitive" strategy to boost its local presence in 2013 as it revealed GWP leapt 30% last year.

Speaking to Insurance Age, Rural MD Simon Stevens claimed the specialist agricultural insurer would go "completely against the market" with the employment of four development underwriters, based in local offices.

Rural's GWP hit £27.5m during 2012 while the number of brokers it traded with increased by 55% from 103 in 2011 to an average of 160 last year, with a peak of 180.
