Axa survey finds SMEs pessimistic about profits

A survey of SMEs by Axa Commercial Lines has revealed that while hopes for an increase in turnover were strong expectations of profitability and plans for recruitment were less positive.

According to the insurer, in spite of widespread concerns for economic growth, its research found that 43% of UK SMEs expected their turnover to grow in 2012 and only one-in-six thought they would see a decrease.

There was however a sharp contrast in optimism depending on the size of the business. Only 23% of sole traders believed that turnover would improve in the 12 months whereas over half (51%) of businesses with 50-99 employees expected turnover to improve.

The findings revealed less

ABI records 3% home premiums rise in Q1

Average home insurance premiums for buildings and contents cover rose by 3% to £375 in the first quarter of this year, pushing the year-on-year rise up to 19%, according to the Association of British Insurers.
