Aviva loses broker leaders in North and Midlands

Gareth Hemming

Aviva has confirmed to Insurance Age that Alan Drury, head of trading, North West and Northern Ireland, along with Mike Smith, head of trading, Midlands and East, will both leave the insurer at the end of the year.

The news was due to be announced on 28 November as part of wider developments and no further regional broker leaders are expected to leave the insurer.

Gareth Hemming, regional broker director at Aviva, explained: "We have been looking at our regional structure trying to make sure that it does the right things going forward for brokers."

He continued: "We have other conversations and things we want to talk to our guys about on Monday. Those changes are about how we go about trading going forwards rather than any structural or people changes."

Mr Hemming confirmed that both men would be replaced in their roles and that brokers could expect to see even more attention from Aviva.

Mr Hemming added: "They [the changes] are more about how we see commercial, and the market, developing over the next four or five years and how we want to be in the right place to take advantage of it."

He concluded: "We would like to thank Mike and Alan for their significant contribution and wish them well."
