Zurich data loss exposes 51,000 policyholders

The insurer is today contacting relevant brokers to ensure they are able to support customers

The UK branch of Zurich Insurance has written to 51,000 general insurance customers and other parties in the UK to inform them of the loss of a back-up data tape in South Africa and the remedial actions being taken.

The customer letters also set out the precautionary measures Zurich UK recommends customers can take as well as the steps that Zurich UK has in place to support them.

The back-up tape was lost during a routine transfer within South Africa to a data storage centre in August 2008. It

Aviva responds to Direct Line’s £10.6m fine

Aviva has confirmed it was fully aware of the ‘historical’ accounting errors that have led to the Prudent Regulation Authority hitting Direct Line Group with a £10.6m fine and stated there will be no impact on the integration or the financial benefits it expects from the takeover.

PRA fines Direct Line underwriter £10.6m

The Prudential Regulation Authority has fined UK Insurance Limited, a subsidiary and principal underwriter of Direct Line Group and now part of Aviva, £10.625m for a miscalculation of its Solvency II balance sheet during 2023 and 2024.
