Stephen Bland, acting director of the Financial Services Authority's (FSA) small business division used the podium at last month's Biba conference to pledge a vigorous crackdown on brokers that flout the regulatory rules.
However, he also conceded that most small brokers won't have a day-to-day relationship with the FSA nor should they expect a visit on a regular basis.
Mr Bland outlined a catalogue of violations the regulator had already detected, and warned intermediaries they faced "tough"
