Ecclesiastical announced a pre-tax profit of £77.1m for 2006, the second-highest in its history. The insurer's group underwriting profit was £27m and combined ratio was 88.5%. Michael Tripp, group chief executive at Ecclesiastical, said: "Despite a very competitive insurance market and softening rates throughout the year, we still succeeded in achieving an excellent underwriting result." The insurer also reported its results for long-term business at £3.5m profit before tax, and announced that
