The election result on 8 June has dramatically changed the political landscape in a way that was completely unforeseen.

Over the last few general elections we have seen a gradual erosion of the classic assumed voting patterns along lines of class and geography. However it has amazed me – and indeed most commentators – that 40% of people who voted did so in support of a radical tax and spend manifesto put forward by Labour.
