Recently my 14 year-old nephew came to the CII for a week's work experience, writes Alasdair Stewart, head of business development, general insurance, at the Chartered Insurance Institute.

He arrived bright eyed and bushy-tailed at Euston station, having left Glasgow at five in the morning, and made the classic Scottish mistake of smiling at people on the Tube. This invited immediate scorn and looks of pity from the other passengers.
