The amount of household insurance sold by independent intermediaries
sharply dropped from 1999-2000, according to figures published by the
Association of British Insurers in Insurance Trends 32. Intermediaries
collected well under 50% of UK household premium income in 2000, compared
with just under 60% of the income in 1999. The ABI's figures show a steep
increase in the amount of household premium income gathered by company
agents and other channels over the same period.
