Lloyd's underwriting capacity reached £15.95bn on 1 January. This business is supported by 176 brokers, managed by 46 managing agents and underwritten by 75 syndicates. The results showed a decrease from January 2007, when capacity stood at £16.1bn.

Lloyd's said the reduction was due to the market's member syndicates responding to a cyclical downturn in global insurance rates.
