Longford Insurance Schemes has warned members of the public to beware of DIY hazards in the Easter holiday.
The insurance provider said the DTI's 1998 Home Accident Surveillance data shows a sharp increase in DIY-related injuries at this time of year. Between January and March 1998 there were about 47 000 DIY-related injuries, while in April 1998 alone there were 21 000 injuries. The majority of these injuries were caused by ladders.
