A level playing field as standard
Eleanor Linton, head of policy at the Financial Services Authority, tells Diane Smyth how she intends to build on the minimum standards set down by the European Union's Insurance Mediation Directive to ensure a fair set of rules for insurers and brokers alike.
Brokers diligently working towards Financial Services Authorityregulation in October 2004 may be surprised to hear that under European
Union law, the Insurance Mediation Directive does not actually come into
effect until January 15 2005. Technically the IMD only comes into force
two years after its publication in the EU's official journal which,
according to Eleanor Linton, head of policy at the FSA, took place without
fanfare on 15 January.
