The manufacturing Science and Finance Union's attempt to seek
compensation for 5000 staff made redundant by Royal & SunAlliance has been
temporarily halted by the adjournment of the tribunal until 4 May.


The union's lawyers presented the case to the Liverpool tribunal at the
beginning of February, but RSA's lawyers asked for more time to prepare
their defence.


The case dates back to 3 May 1996, when the union alleges RSA breached the
European Directive of Consultation and Collective Redundancies by
