Harrogate-based consolidator Smart and Cook is set to re-enter the acquisition fray with a bang after an eight month absence. Laughing off recent speculation about its sale to Towergate as "highly amusing, but ultimately fiction," group chief executive Paul Meehan told Professional Broking it had just made the first of five acquisitions - Slater Marchant and its two offices in Settle and Skipton. The four other deals are expected to happen between now and June, bringing in around £50m gross
