Giles and Venture Preference headed a battle of the acquirers this November, buying five firms between them.

Giles beat off competition from four consolidator rivals to win Hedges and Rose, which has a gross written premium of £8m, paying £4.2m over two years for its first Welsh broker. Giles also bought Dudley-based Lester Bashford and Webb, which generates £9m GWP.

Venture Preference made a trio of acquisitions, taking on two brokers under its Smart & Cook business and a third under Stuart
