Using Stuart Fraser-Thompson's letter on the basic principles of
insurance (PB, November, page 17) as an example, my New Year's resolution
is to encourage an ongoing and open debate through your columns.


What do we need to do to get insurance back on course before we become the
lemmings of a meltdown? Basic principles, the past (prior to the exemption
of insurance from the Unfair Contract Terms Act 1977) and stability are
the key to the future.


My working definition that insurance is the ultimate
