Bright in upbeat mood as Independent trial date set

The trial of the former directors of collapsed Independent Insurance is expected to start around Easter 2007, a preliminary hearing at Southwark Crown Court was told on 24 March.

Former Independent chief executive and founder Michael Bright, former deputy managing director Philip Condon and former finance director Dennis Lomas, all face charges of conspiracy to defraud.

Judge Rivlin QC has set 24 July this year as the date for the preparatory hearing.

Bright appeared as self-assured as ever
