The General Network has ceased trading "indefinitely" as a result of
the increasing consolidation in the insurance industry.

The company said that continued acquisitions and mergers had made it
extremely difficult for it to serve its 60 broker members, which are
mainly small personal lines intermediaries.

The departure of former chief executive Lloyd Hanks and delays in the
launch of the General Insurance Standards Council were also cited as
factors in the decision to suspend operations.
