The financial strength of UK general insurers is significantly below historic levels, according to rating agency AM Best.
The company's UK Domestic Non-life Market Report found insurers have reduced capital strength, and predicts the market can only hope to stabilise.
Greg Carter, senior director of insurance at Fitch Ratings, agreed with the thrust of the report, adding that there was little sign of the market softening.
