Broker network The General Network has ceased to trade indefinitely due to the increased consolidation in the insurance industry.

The company said that continued acquisitions and mergers had made it extremely difficult for it to serve its 60 members, which are mainly small personal lines intermediaries. The departure of former chief executive Lloyd Hanks and delays in the opening of the General Insurance Standards Council were also cited as factors in the decision to suspend operations.
