Lack of statistics dogs FSA plans
Diane Smyth reports from the CII conference, held in Birmingham on 19-20 September
The lack of statistics on the number of brokers in the UK looks setto be a stumbling block for the Financial Services Authority as it
establishes regulation of the area.
John Tiner, managing director of the FSA, and Chris Woodburn, chief
executive officer of the General Insurance Standards Council, both gave
speeches touching on the sheer size of the FSA's task. However, while Mr
Tiner cited a figure of 50,000 brokers facing regulation, Mr Woodburn
estimated between 20,000 and 40,000.
