More than one trade body representing the same market simply does not
make sense. It means the membership funds are spread more thinly, there is
wasteful duplication of services and the credibility of the profession in
the eyes of the government is lessened. That said, a merger between the
Institute of Insurance Brokers and the British Insurance and Investment
Brokers Association, with their history of bad tempered rivalry, seems as
likely as merger between Arsenal and Spurs.
