Playing the ratings game.

Ratings agencies came in for bad press after the crash of Independent Insurance but Rob Jones still has faith in the system and believes it will go from strength to strength. Diane Smyth reports.

Ratings agencies have had a rough ride over the past couple of years,
with the system called into question when well-rated companies such as
Independent Insurance subsequently went bust.


Rob Jones, director of financial services rating for Standard & Poors, is
confident that ratings are both reliable and useful, although he admits
ratings aren't used as much as they should be. "Brokers clearly have a
