Extra maternity pay legislation on the horizon.

Q: I am aware that there is new legislation expected regarding maternity pay and the like. Can you please tell me exactly what will be included?

The Employment Bill has indeed been publicised but its measures will
not be implemented until April 2003. These include the right for working
mothers to take six months' paid and a further six months' unpaid
maternity leave with statutory maternity pay (SMP) rising to £100 a
week.


For the first time, new fathers will be able to take up to two weeks' paid
paternity leave - at a rate of £100 a week. Leave must be taken in a
single block and within a period of 56 days from the date on which the
child
