Rural fraudster bleaten by shear force of the law

City of London Police’s Insurance Fraud Enforcement Department is investigating suspected fraudulent insurance claims over the alleged theft of more than 650 sheep.

Initially referred by an insurer to the Rural Crime Agency, the case was then passed onto Ifed.

The investigation relates to three claims made within 12 months on an insurance policy for the alleged theft of sheep from fields rented by the suspect.

It is believed the reported thefts did not take place, and documents submitted in support of the claims may have been fraudulent.

A total of £28,220 was paid out for two of the claims. A third claim for £64,800 was not paid following intervention by Ifed
