Insider fraud demands a joined-up insurance response

Nick Burgess, head of professional and management risks at Markel UK, lays out the connected pitfalls and the solutions brokers need to consider to support clients’ organisational resilience in the fight against insider fraud.

The latest Cifas Workplace Fraud Trends report provides a useful indication about how UK businesses think about insider fraud.

It found that 13% of employees had sold company login details to a former colleague, or knew someone who had, in the previous 12 months. The same proportion believed selling access to company systems could be justified.

The findings get worse further up the ladder. Almost a third of senior managers (32%) and 36% of directors surveyed considered the behaviour justifiable
