False motor trade policy applications on the rise

Insurance fraudsters are using motor trade road risks policies to avoid paying the correct premium for their risk, motor broker DNA Insurance Services has warned.

Customers make the false policy applications to ensure their vehicles appear on the Motor Insurance Database - allowing them to pay a lower premium.

The broker said it had seen an increase in this kind of activity over the past six months, in line with “escalating car insurance rates”.

“The impact of this worrying trend is two-fold," explained DNA director Alf Costa. "Firstly it can render the driver’s insurance policy null and void leading to the full range of issues created by a lack of cover
