BJP Insurance Brokers’ managing director Barry McGoun tells Andrew Pearce why the company first targeted the construction sector and why he values training so highly

▶ What’s your broking history before BJP?

I’m an accountant so my working life has not always been in insurance. I joined insurance in 1983 and worked for Helm Group on the financial side but because a lot of my history involved computers I tried to bring Helm up to date. I tried to keep away from the insurance side but I got involved and eventually became MD.

▶ What led to the creation of BJP?

When a few other people knew I was leaving Helm, they asked to join me and we started BJP. I was MD
