Government to tackle whiplash claims
The government will today unveil plans to tackle what it has described as “the huge number of whiplash claims which have been pushing up costs”.
Justice Secretary Chris Grayling is expected to launch a consultation on new measures to bring down the number and cost of whiplash claims, including speculative and fraudulent applications.
The Ministry of Justice cited figures showing that there were more than half a million whiplash claims last year and that insurer estimates put the added cost to the average motor insurance policy at £90.
The government will consult on creating new independent medical panels to improve diagnosis of whiplash
