ABI Key Facts reveals broker market figures

The Association of British Insurers (ABI) has updated its Key Facts and Figures on the UK insurance sector and revealed that 56% of all insurance business is sold through brokers.

The trade association's document drevealed that 80% of commercial business is placed by brokers. For personal lines it said 31% of business is distributed directly by telephone or through the internet with the figure rising to 43% for private vehicle insurance.

While the ABI stated insurers did not report how much broker business was written through comparison websites, it said it had been estimated that 51% of all private car new business was purchased as a result of the use of the internet in
