Spending Review 2010: AA disappointed at drop in flood defence spending

AA Insurance has voiced its concern that spending on flood defence will not be maintained at current levels.

Simon Douglas, director of AA Insurance, said: "It is vital that the insurance industry and the Government work together to tackle the growing risk of flooding especially as the Statement of Principle on flood insurance, between the Association of British Insurers and the Government, comes to an end in 2013."

In the Spending Review the Government committed to spending £2bn on flood defences over four years, 2011 to 2015, compared to a previous commitment of a £2.15bn spend over three years
