Without doubt, these are hard times for insurance brokers and this makes us all look for new business and revenue streams. However, what it should not lead to is the use of 'quick fix' and other such schemes that undermine the claims process and the integrity of the industry.

The incidence of claims farming is one such negative aspect to affect the industry today. By claims farming, I am not talking about operating a legal expense policy where the broker works with a reputable claims company that pays sensible commissions and handles the claim for the customer in the event of a non-fault incident. This, I see, as looking after the customer.

Brokers have mixed reaction on Zurich/Beazley deal

Insurance brokers have given a mixed response to the potential Zurich/Beazley deal highlighting the acquisition would create a “strong proposition” and could create opportunities but noted another competitor leaving the market as a medium-term worry.
