Jobs under threat as Axa shuts Redhill underwriting centre

Insurer insists move is not a cost cutting exercise

Axa has confirmed it is to close its commercial underwriting operation in Redhill putting 23 jobs at risk.

The underwriting will be transferred to Reading but four home-based development underwriters will continue to service local brokers.

In a statement, the insurer said that all the affected staff had been offered the opportunity to transfer to Reading and that the decision to move the operation was "a continuation of the customer delivery and distribution structure changes announced earlier
