UK insurer Fortis, part of the Belgium-based Fortis group, has announced a record year, with pre-tax profits climbing to £77.5m up 16.7% over 2005 (£66.4m). Gross written premium grew from £597m to £688m with the combined operating ratio improving from 97.5% to 97.2%. Commission income from its retail businesses, over-50s specialist RIAS, OutRight, Affinity Solutions and Text2Insure, increased by 28% to £77.3m. AutoDirect, Outright's internet arm, signed a deal with the UK Armed Forces
