Fears over the future of major sports events in the wake of 11 September have not been realised but rising insurance costs mean amateur sport is still under threat.
The nation has been gripped by the injury to David Beckham's foot andthe location of his metatarsal bone, with even the Prime Minister
commenting upon the incident and its consequences for the World Cup
squad.
It was another illustration of the country's obsession with sport,
although we are a nation more interested in watching than
participating.
The World Cup finals will no doubt dominate the media for two months this
summer but those interested in other sports will not be neglected.
