Ombudsman reveals slight fall in PPI cases for start of financial year

The Financial Ombudsman Service (FOS) has revealed that it opened 42,401 new cases for payment protection insurance (PPI) in the period April-June 2017.

This represented a 2.7% fall from the same quarter of 2016.

The level of cases upheld was also lower at 40%, down from 57%.

However, the number of enquiries rose by 7.8% to 57,186 at the start of the financial year (Q1 2016: 53,045).

Overall PPI made up over half of the FOS’ workload at 53%.
