Blog: Join ERS on the Gumball rally

Alex Hardy, sales director at specialist motor insurer ERS will be taking a break from his weekend downtime and throwing himself out of his comfort zone and into a high-octane, once-in-a-lifetime driving experience.

Along seasoned motoring journalist Jonny Smith, he’ll be putting the keys into the ignition of a classic Ferrari 430 Spider on the starting grid of this year’s 3000 mile Gumball rally – and they’re inviting you to join them at gumball.ers.com on this amazing journey.

So why is Team ERS taking part?

Well, partnering with Independent insurance broker PK Partnership, ERS is underwriting this prestigious international motor event, which every year plays host to supercar owners from all backgrounds, including many celebrities like Matthew McConaughey, Adrien Brody and David Hasselhoff.

This year the rally begins on 1 July in Riga, Lativa and winds its way down public roads in Eastern Europe to the finish line in Mykonos on 8 July.

Fanatics
Finding out what drives the passions of these supercar fanatics was too good an opportunity to miss, so ERS took the daring decision no previous insurer for the rally has taken before, and decided to take in the experience first-hand.

Driving in the same tyre tracks as the cars ERS insures will provide fantastic insights for Alex to take back to the business and help build even stronger relationships with its broker partners.

Underwriting an event as ambitious and complex as Gumball 3000 – with £30m worth of vehicles, imports and celebs coming together in one risk – has involved months of painstaking research into the potential challenges involved.

The policy starts the moment each car hits land in Riga and continues until they ship off again at the conclusion of the rally. It’s a challenge few insurers would be prepared to take on, but ERS specialises in creating bespoke policies for the most unusual of vehicles, owners and circumstances.

Alex and Jonny will be videoing their epic journey as they go, sending back highlights of each day to capture the inside story of Gumball.

They’ll meet the craziest drivers and hunt out the most exotic cars, really discovering the essence of the rally and what makes its participants tick.
