Products: Launches show sea change for insurers

Two insurers took the industry by surprise by launching products in markets they had previously shied away from.

Direct insurer Esure has revealed its intention to move into the broker market with the launch of Esure Broker, while Aviva performed a u-turn by announcing its intention to return to the aggregator space.

Jon Morrell is to head up the new venture which Esure hopes will create a third revenue stream for the business as it heads towards IPO.

The first task for Mr Morrell is to build a broker panel to capitalise on the volume of
non-core business that the Esure and Sheilas’ Wheels brands both
